Bills, dates and bank account numbers

When were the regular 2026 instalments due?

The interim bill had due dates of February 27 and April 30, 2026. The final bill had June 30 and September 29, 2026 due dates. These dates have passed as of this guide’s check date. Use the next issued bill for later-year deadlines.

Why is the interim bill different from the final bill?

The January interim bill generally uses 50% of the previous year’s taxes, adjusted for completed changes. The final bill is issued in May using the current assessed value and approved rates, less the interim amount. A property assessment change can therefore affect the final bill.

How do I pay property taxes through my bank?

Search for Barrie as the payee and use the 19-digit property-tax roll number printed on the bill. Allow several business days for bank payments to reach the city. Do not use a water-account number or assume a payment made on the due date has arrived.

Payment methods and late charges

Where can I pay in person?

Service Barrie at 70 Collier Street accepts cash, cheque and debit during weekday hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays. Cheques can also go in City Hall’s front-entrance or Worsley Street drop boxes. Direct credit-card payments are not accepted.

Can I use a credit card online?

A third-party bill-payment provider may accept a credit card and charge a service fee. Barrie receives only the tax amount and posts payment when the funds reach the city. Check the provider’s processing time and accepted cards before relying on that method.

What is the late-payment charge?

The city charges 1.25% per month, calculated from the first day of each delayed month. Interest and penalty cannot be waived under the stated policy. Keep proof of payment and contact Service Barrie if you think a payment has not been posted correctly.

Extra assessments, notices and account corrections

Why might I receive a tax arrears notice after paying taxes?

Other charges can be added to the tax roll, including overdue water bills, property-standard charges, ownership-change account fees or fees for extra bills and receipts. A recent bank payment may also still be in transit. Ask Service Barrie to review the account history.

What is a supplementary or omitted tax bill?

MPAC may assess new construction, renovations or another property change after the annual roll. Barrie then issues an extra bill with its own due dates. Omitted assessments can reach two prior years. These bills are additional to the regular instalments and are outside automatic tax-payment plans.

How do I change the address for tax notices?

Submit the city Mailing Address Change Form. That updates only Barrie’s records, so also update MPAC separately. Notices otherwise go to the property address. If you have moved, ensure notices and account responsibilities are updated rather than relying on mail forwarding alone.

Who handles assessment concerns or missing mortgage payments?

MPAC handles assessed value and property classification concerns through AboutMyProperty. If a mortgage company pays your taxes and a payment is missing, contact that company. Service Barrie at 705-726-4242 or ServiceBarrie@barrie.ca can review the city account and supporting payment confirmation.
