Choose a plan and understand withdrawals
Which automatic tax-payment plans does Barrie offer?
The Monthly and Due Date plans are for properties without tax arrears. The Arrears plan is for owners with an overdue balance and requires an agreed schedule with Revenue staff. The city does not charge a surcharge for the automatic-payment method.

When does the Monthly plan take money?
Withdrawals occur on the last business day of the month, ten times each year, with no regular November or December withdrawal. January to May amounts appear in a December notification letter. June to October amounts are set from the final tax bill.

Why are May and October important?
They are settle-up months. Any outstanding account balance is withdrawn in full on the last banking day, not just the usual instalment. The city requires a written cancellation request if you do not agree to that arrangement. Plan your bank balance for those months.

Enrolment and bills outside the plan
How does the Due Date plan differ?
It withdraws the amounts on the due dates printed on the interim and final bills. It does not spread the annual bill across ten monthly withdrawals. Choose it when you want the city to take each scheduled instalment automatically from your chequing account.

How does the Arrears plan work?
Arrange an acceptable payment schedule with Finance Revenue staff through Service Barrie. Agreed monthly payments are taken on the last business day. Interest or penalty continues on outstanding amounts. Once the account is current, you may choose the Monthly or Due Date option.

Can I enrol during the year?
Yes. If the complete application and required cheque arrive by the 15th, withdrawals can begin at that month’s end. Only chequing accounts are accepted. Continue your normal payments until you receive the email confirming that the city has accepted your enrolment.

Bank changes, sales and failed payments
Are extra tax bills included?
No. Supplementary and omitted bills have separate deadlines and must be paid separately. Unpaid extra charges can cause removal from the plan and late fees. An automatic plan for regular instalments does not cover every later charge appearing on the property account.

Do I have to apply again every year?
No. Once enrolled, the plan continues for later years unless changed or cancelled. Monthly-plan users receive a December notification letter instead of an interim bill. Keep that letter as your prior-year receipt and record of the first five upcoming withdrawals.

How do I change banks or stop payments after selling?
Complete the PAP Change or Cancellation Form and notify Service Barrie in writing. A bank change needs a void cheque from the new account. The city requires at least 15 days’ notice. For a sale, provide the closing date and pay the outstanding balance in full.

What happens if a withdrawal fails?
Two missed payments remove an account from the plan. Regular tax deadlines and 1.25% monthly penalties then apply. Failed withdrawals also bring an administrative fee and applicable interest. Contact Service Barrie immediately rather than assuming the next scheduled withdrawal will correct the failure.
