Billing frequency and online access
How often does Barrie issue a water bill?
Residential water and wastewater bills are issued every two months. Non-residential bills are monthly. The charge combines water-meter consumption and current fixed service charges. Actual billing-day counts affect the amounts, so compare usage and dates when checking two bills.
What do I need to view my water account online?
Create a profile using a valid email address, then choose Add Account. Enter your water account number and most recent bill amount. A new property account cannot be linked until its first bill is issued, even if you have already created the online profile.
Can I receive bills by email?
Yes. Choose e-billing in the online water-billing account. You need the account number and total due on the most recent bill when setting up a new account. The portal also shows payment history, consumption history, bills and the last payment received.
Moving, payment plans and bank payments
How can I see daily water use?
Use the city Water Meter Readings application with the account number and meter number from your bill. It shows daily consumption by week, month or a custom date range, going back as far as 13 months. This is separate from simply viewing the bill.
What should I do before moving?
Notify Service Barrie at least 10 business days ahead through ServiceBarrie.ca, ServiceBarrie@barrie.ca or 705-726-4242. The city needs a final meter reading. You may remain responsible for water used until it receives notice and finalizes the account.
What automatic-payment options are available?
The regular pre-authorized plan takes the actual billed amount on its due date. Budget Billing takes equal monthly instalments from your bank account. These plans work differently; choose the one that fits your household’s cash flow and complete the city’s required setup forms.
Late payments and help
Can I pay directly by credit card at City Hall?
No. Service Barrie accepts cash, cheque and debit. A separate online bill-payment provider may accept credit cards, charge its own fees and take several days to send the money. The city counts payment when funds arrive, not when you submit it to that provider.
How do I pay through my bank?
Add Barrie as the water-billing payee using the account number printed on the water bill. Payments can take several business days to reach the city. Allow enough time before the due date, and use the water account rather than the property-tax roll number.
What happens if a bill is late?
The city applies a 1.25% monthly charge to overdue balances. Unpaid water and wastewater charges can be transferred to the property-tax roll with a transfer fee, and continued non-payment may lead to disconnection. Contact Service Barrie promptly if your account needs review.
Where can I pay in person or ask for my balance?
Service Barrie is on City Hall’s first floor at 70 Collier Street, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays. To ask for a balance without an online account, give your name and property address by phone or email.
